It's a bit after midnight (local time) and we've just rolled into our hotel room, in Fairfax, Virginia, after a 4 a.m. start. Three hops from Spokane to Minneapolis to Detroit and finally Washington Dulles airport. En route we ran into several folks making the same trip; it is, as Sandy says, feeling a bit like a pilgrimage. And all in high spirits; hard to compare it to, say, the haj.
We're up early in the AM to go collect our tickets to the swearing in, wander the capital mall and also, we hope, catch the opening festivities at the Lincoln Memorial, where the Obamas will appear before a crowd of entertainers regale the crowd.
